Willem II are often slow starters in the Eredivisie and with them being a ‘yo-yo club’, for want of a better phrase, their fans will have been relieved to see their beloved team pick up their first points of the season last weekend. Heerenveen, on the other hand, have started brightly and look as if they posses the ability to challenge for the European places after remaining unbeaten and picking up eleven points from their opening five matches.
Four of the last six matches between the two clubs have produced over 2.5 goals, and last season both sides won their home game against the other, with Willem II winning the corresponding fixture by two goals to one. With the hosts starting the new campaign slowly, the bookmakers make Heerenveen the odds on favourites to take all three points on Saturday, but given the close head to head record between the pair and the hosts back to back wins in the league and cup, we think this game is going to be much closer than many people are expecting.
Five of Willem II’s last six games have seen over 2.5 goals scored, and the same can be said about four of Heerenveen’s last six, making goals a distinct possibility between the pair this weekend. Speaking of goals, the hosts have netted nine in their last six matches, but also conceded thirteen, while Heerenveen have scored twelve during that period and let in seven.
Former Villarreal forward Fran Sol now plies his trade in the Eredivisie with Willem II, and the Spaniard is off to a good start this season with three goals in the league already, not bad when you consider he scored eleven for the Dutch club in the last campaign. Teammate Velikonja has been a bit of a journeyman striker over the last few seasons, playing for seven different clubs in the last five years, but he has netted twice this season in just two appearances and may well have found his new home at Willem II.
Norwegian midfielder Thorsby is not known for his goal scoring ability, yet the 21-year old has netted four times in the league this season, that’s double the amount he has scored in his entire career with Heerenveen and Stabæk. Iranian international Ghoochannejhad has continued where he left off for Heerenveen last season with two goals to his name so far, and if they can get him into the 20 goals mark again then I’m sure the visitors will have a very good season.
We’re confident that the goals will continue to flow between these sides this weekend, so we are predicting over 2.5 goals scored at odds of 8/11, meaning there is some decent money to be made from this betting tip. If you are thinking of betting on a final score, well, its going to be difficult as this game feels like it could go either way. With Heerenveen’s current form taken into account its hard to see them losing, but Willem II have confidence and a decent record against their guests, so we have gone for a 2-2 draw.
