Both of these teams have had solid starts to the Ligue 1 campaign but they will surely be put to the test when they face each other on Friday night. Nice in particular have bounced back from a terrible first couple of games, in which they suffered unexpected defeats to record three victories in a row in league and European competition. Nice opened the campaign with a loss at St Etienne, before being stunned by league new boys Troyes. Since then however, they have beaten Guingamp, champions Monaco and Rennes to climb as high as 8th in the division.
It has been somewhat of a slow rehabilitation for Nice, who were left demoralised after being soundly beaten over two legs against Italian side Napoli in their Champions League qualification tie. That defeat meant that Nice were entered into the Europa League, but the team have started life in the tournament well, hammering Zulte-Waregem 5-1 in their first game. Whether Nice can sustain this run remains to be seen and the team’s chances of replicating last season’s third placed finish seem slim, according to pundits.
Angers meanwhile have won just one game so far, but they have also managed four draws, to leave themselves in 11th position after six matches. A mid-table finish should probably be acceptable for Angers fans, who know they do not have a squad to compete with the leading lights of the league. This is sure to be a tough away trip for Angers, who face 5th placed Lyon in their next game.
We see Nice winning this one comfortably following their recent wins in league and in Europe and advise backing a home victory at odds of 21/20.
For our correct score prediction, we think the game will end 2-0 to the hosts. That bet is at odds of 9/1.
